[i]sixthstar posting in [i]apartmentgarden: Newb Hello!

I just wanted to drop a quick hello and say hi to everyone here. I'm new to the community, with a newly developed interest in container gardening. I'm looking forward to planting my own come spring.

Hello All!

Hi there. I'm just wondering if anyone have experience with bonsai trees? I just love them and I'm thinking about getting one for my apartment and I'm wondering if the bonsai trees have any special needs?

[i]agraciado posting in [i]apartmentgarden: a newb and a question!

Does anyone else grow fruit plants in their container garden?

I'm planning a small garden this year of lettuces, strawberries, herbs, tomatoes, and maybe some cucumbers. I'd really love to grow some fruits too, but my google-fu has only been able to find information on growing strawberries and fruit trees (something that interests me and will probably do in a few years).

Are there any other fruits that grow well in a container garden?

[i]imaplatypus posting in [i]apartmentgarden: My first post!!

Hi all! Name's Loretta. I've been following since I first heard of this community on the spotlight.

I live in NJ, and it's winter here. Wet, cold, and we've had our first snow and hail.

I have a potted basil plant, which has been harvested twice for small batches of pesto and is doing quite nicely. It's ready for a repotting; I currently have it on a makeshift frame of a basket and a bent wire clothes hanger (I'll get around to posting photos).

Here's the thing: I haven't a clue as to the proper continued care of my yummy little green friend! Any suggestions would be welcome, including and especially where to do my own research.

I'd like to introduce you all to the start of my apartment garden. Along the side are 8x red cayenne peppers, along the back are 8x Thai sweet basil. The foremost round pot has a jalapeno chilli plant, the round pot behind it has about 5 sprouting bits of ginger. In the leetle tubs in the middle are another 7 jalapeno plants.

It goes without saying that some of these need to go into bigger pots. Which is where I'd like to ask opinions, please.

1) The rectangular pots are about 42 x 16cms. How many plants should it be holding?
2) The round pots have a diameter of 28cms. How many can I fit in them?
3) I have lemongrass sprouting inside. Recommended pot size?
4) Anyone know how I can get galangal sprouting? I've had it soaking in water for a week+ but no sign of green :(

Thank you all for any help.

(My lord. I feel like I'm hogging the community)
